LARS SCHWABE is a painter, who is currently studying at the Hochschule für Gestaltung in Offenbach, Germany. As one of the gallery’s youngest artists his paintings are striking. The works may seem rough and cold, but only at first sight. This is due to the dark colors he uses, often black, on light colored ground, but also because of the coarse canvas, which imparts the paintings a special kind of materiality.
Oftentimes his style is gestural, even though premeditated, and evokes the process of creation, yet the works can also show broad calm areas. Repetition is a motif he is prone to use. What may seem like random trails of brushstrokes is brought into order by the repetitiveness of the act. His works have been shown at the Museum für angewandte Kunst Frankfurt and the Hafenhallen Offenbach.
