Artist Talk Kubra Khademi
in conversation with Dr. Claudia Tittel

Saturday, 07.09.2024 at 3 PM

Location: Galerie Anita Beckers, Braubachstr. 9, 60311 Frankfurt/Main

Kubra Khademi’s artistic work aims to bring about social change, particularly in her country of origin, Afghanistan. In conversation with art historian Dr. Claudia Tittel, the artist’s political and artistic concerns will be presented and explored in greater depth. The topicality of the exhibition project is given further urgency by recent developments in the USA and Afghanistan: on the one hand, Kamala Harris is running for the office of possibly the first female president of the USA. On the other hand, just last week the Taliban government further restricted the rights of women and girls in Afghanistan. Against this background, we will hear directly about Kubra Khademi’s life in Afghanistan and gain exciting insights into her new life as an artist in exile.

You are cordially invited!
Due to limited seating, please register in advance.

We are pleased to present the first solo exhibition of Kubra Khademi in the gallery. Born in 1989 in Kabul, Afghanistan, the Hazara artist, performer, and activist has lived in exile in Paris since 2015. Her works address themes such as gender roles, cultural identity, and social justice, and she advocates for the rights of women, children, and minorities. Her work is shaped by her personal experiences as a girl and woman in Afghanistan, as well as by her experience of fleeing and living in exile in Paris. In her drawings and paintings on paper, she celebrates the female body, depicting it in all its facets. Humorous and provocative, her works deal with sexual emancipation and women’s empowerment in a male-dominated society.
