With “re_”, Sebastian Kuhn presents his new solo exhibition at Galerie Anita Beckers – an expansive exploration of processes of transformation, recontextualization and re-appropriation. The title, deliberately kept open, refers to the prefix “re” – a linguistic fragment that stands for repetition, reference and renewal. It invites us to view the works from different perspectives: as reflection, reaction, re-construction.
Kuhn’s sculptural works are created by combining industrial materials, everyday objects and architectural set pieces. In doing so, he follows the principle of “sampling” known from music, especially jazz. Precise interventions – such as breaking up, connecting or mirroring the elements – create hybrid forms in which the relationship between object, space and viewer is constantly renegotiated.
“re_” is less a collection of completed works than a system of transitions in which the fragmentary is experienced not as a deficiency but as a productive state.
The exhibition is also a commentary on our present – on cycles of production and decay, on the question of new beginnings within the existing. With “re_”, Sebastian Kuhn opens up a space of perception that invites us to rediscover and think further.

Mit „re_“ präsentiert Sebastian Kuhn seine neue Einzelausstellung in der Galerie Anita Beckers – eine raumgreifende Auseinandersetzung mit Prozessen der Transformation, Rekontextualisierung und Wiederaneignung. Der Titel, bewusst offen gehalten, verweist auf den Vorsatz „re“ – ein sprachliches Fragment, das für Wiederholung, Rückbezug und Erneuerung steht. Es lädt ein, die Arbeiten unter verschiedenen Perspektiven zu betrachten: als Reflexion, Reaktion, Re-Konstruktion.
Kuhns skulpturale Arbeiten entstehen aus dem Zusammenfügen von industriellen Materialien, Alltagsobjekten und architektonischen Versatzstücken. Dabei folgt er dem aus der Musik, vor allem dem Jazz bekannten Prinzip des „Sampelns“. Durch präzise Eingriffe – etwa das Aufbrechen, Verbinden oder Spiegeln der Elemente – entstehen hybride Formen, in denen das Verhältnis zwischen Objekt, Raum und Betrachter stetig neu verhandelt wird.
„re_“ ist weniger eine Sammlung abgeschlossener Werke als vielmehr ein System von Übergängen, in dem das Fragmentarische nicht als Mangel, sondern als produktiver Zustand erfahrbar wird.
Die Ausstellung ist zugleich ein Kommentar zu unserer Gegenwart – zu Zyklen von Produktion und Verfall, zur Frage nach dem Neuanfang im Bestehenden. Sebastian Kuhn öffnet mit „re_“ einen Raum der Wahrnehmung, der zum Wiederentdecken und Weiterdenken einlädt.
