The Old Boy´s Club at Art Brussels

24.04.2014 – 27.04.2014

“One must still have chaos in oneself to be able to give birth to a dancing star.” This quote by Friedrich Nietzsche seems to act like a key to the work. Order and clarity are terms that are ultimately broken in the works of The Old Boy’s Club. In the animations, drawings and paintings of The Old Boy’s Club, existing categories, orders, and socially constructed mechanisms are broken.

Artistic originality, the associated idea of authorship and other attributes of identity like gender and genre, family, landscape, history, are examples thee of. These issues are dealt with and brought to light in a humorous and radical manner. In a recent series, lively, colourful characters with graphical elements can be seen that possess readings of the iconic turns within popular culture. They evoke a critical look at the contemporary ethos, as well as older forms of Eastern and Western civilization. In 2014 The Old Boy’s Club began to work on the idea of google image search about harmony, simplicity and emptiness. This is a Don Quichotte Style battle, trying to give image to words. In google image search about “emptiness”, for example, we will have ton of grey depressing image, but “emptiness” is for The Old Boy’s Club a precious concept. It is nothing like sad and grey. Do it is amazing!
At Art Brussels at the booth of Galerie Anita Beckers, The Old Boy’s Club combined all the different elements of work to a Cabinet of Curiosity.
